Incorporating Graffiti Wallpaper into a Teenage Bedroom
Graffiti is a bit like Marmite, it is one of those things that you either love or hate. Regardless of whether you like it or not, it is a growing trend in both the art scene and the interior design world – particularly popular with the youth of today. With an increasing number of brands starting to offer graffiti wallpaper like Muriva Graffiti Brick Wallpaper or Debona Graffiti Wallpaper, we thought that we’d help answer some of your questions about how to utilise graffiti wallpaper in a bedroom.
Can graffiti bedroom wallpaper be used tastefully?
The answer to this question is yes – in the right design, graffiti wallpaper can not only provide a bold, eye-catching look but it can also appear sophisticated and tasteful too. The overall result all depends on your use of the wallpaper and your overall styling.
How do I choose a colour scheme?
Graffiti bedroom wallpaper comes in a wide range of colours. Take the Arthouse Street Wise Graffiti Wallpaper for example, this comes in a moody black and grey colour scheme with just a hint of teal and yellow colouring. The Rasch Urban Graffiti Wallpaper on the other hand comes in a more vibrant colour scheme incorporating red, blue, yellow and more. The key to getting the look right is to strike a balance between what your teenager wants and what you like. Don’t just choose the first graffiti wallpaper you find, instead look around at the different designs and colour schemes and choose one that meets your tastes.
What accent colours should I use?
When it comes to choosing accent colours for other walls or woodwork, less is certainly more for a tasteful look. All the graffiti wallpaper designs work well with white. However if you want to select a bolder accent colour, look at the design of the graffiti wallpaper you have chosen and select the shade that appears the least in the design – that can make a perfect accent colour for other areas of the room.
How do I know how many walls to use it on?
As graffiti wallpaper is typically very busy in design, it is actually best used on just one or two walls. For the best effect in large bedrooms, choose two walls that meet and paper both in the same wallpaper for a great effect. Smaller rooms may be overpowered by covering two walls in the design so opt instead for just papering one wall.
What type of flooring goes with graffiti wallpaper?
When choosing flooring solutions for a graffiti themed bedroom, look for something clean and simple in design. Light to medium wooden flooring is perfect or choose a light, plain carpet to avoid the chance of it clashing with your graffiti wallpaper.
How do I complete the look?
To complete the look and create a stunning graffiti inspired teenage bedroom, choose accessories in your accent colour. This will help tie the look together. Keep bedspreads and curtains plain and simple, again in just one of the accent colours for a more coherent look.
So now you know how to create a tasteful teenage bedroom using graffiti wallpaper, choose your favourite design and start decorating today.

All about 1200 Grade Lining Paper
Lining paper has been around for a while and recently we have seen more specialist varieties come to market, so as well as prepping your walls for wallpapering, you can now get insulating and soundproofing liners. We’ve also seen an increase in the range of lining paper grades, or thicknesses. Today we’re going to take a look at 1200 grade lining paper and when you should use it.
What is 1200 Grade Lining Paper?
As mentioned previously, lining paper is available in different grades. This refers to the thickness of the paper. The lower the grade, the thinner the paper is. So 600 or 800 grade liner is very thin and best used if you have delicate wallpaper or nearly perfectly plastered walls. 2000 grade is the thickest and is designed to use on old walls with many imperfections.
As you can probably tell, 1200 lining paper is a medium thickness liner that is versatile enough to be used in a few different scenarios. Reasons to use it when redecorating are as follows:
- To create a base – It can be used to create a smooth surface ready for painting or wallpapering on.To smooth uneven surfaces – 1200 grade liner can smooth over minor imperfections like pits and bubbles in the plaster.
- To disguise cracks – 1200 grade liner can also cover over hairline cracks in the plaster caused by dried out plaster or slight house movements.
- To cover over paint – As 1200 grade liner is a medium thickness paper, it can hide layers of paint and also some marks and stains. You should make sure any stains are sealed before putting on the lining paper so that they can’t leach into the liner and then into the covering paper or wallpaper.
So there you go – 1200 grade lining paper is the versatile jack of all trades lining paper. It can be used on any wall in your home, as well as ceilings. You can get it from a number of well-known brands like Anaglypta and Wallrock.
Decorating ideas for boys Wallpaper and Bedroom
Popular decoration themes for young boys rooms are things like Thomas the Tank Engine, Disney’s Cars or space themed boys wallpaper. But when they become a teenager, they are likely to run a mile from these designs. Below we take a look at three different wallpaper options more suited to teenage boys’ bedrooms.
Wall Murals
Although wall murals have generally been aimed at younger children with Disney characters and generic childhood imagery, brand like Walltastic now offer wall murals aimed at older children and teenagers, so there’s options when it comes to choosing a boy’s wall mural for a teenager’s bedroom. You can choose from comic book themes , films such as Star Wars or a world map. Murals generally come in panels so they are easy to hang and remove.
Wallpaper Designs
Boy’s wallpaper designs are a great alternative to wall murals. There is a current trend for British/Union Jack themed designs – bold red, white and blue stripes work really well. This can work all around the room or just as a feature wall. A third option is to contrast two different British wallpaper designs. Another design that is popular for teenage boy’s rooms are street art brick and graffiti designs. These are great for bringing a hit of vibrant colour to the room.
Paint Effects
If you feel like getting a bit creative, then there’s no need to limit yourself only to wallpaper designs or wall murals. You can use paint to create a lot of different effects. As I mentioned before, stripes are very popular and are totally flexible in terms of colour, so you can tailor the look to suit your son’s tastes. You can mix wide and narrow stripes to create a more relaxed look. Another option is to go for contrasting woodwork. When dong this it’s best to keep the walls a neutral colour and highlight the woodwork with a brighter colour. If you don’t have woodwork, a wallpaper border is another way to liven up plain walls.
And if one of those doesn’t please them, then you might have a proper Kevin on your hands.
Ideas for decorating with nursery wallpaper
Planning and decorating the nursery can be one of the more fun tasks to do when expecting a baby. But deciding on a look can be daunting as there’s so much to choose from. So today we’re going to take a look at some of the options available to you to create a lovely nursery for your newborn.
It’s a surprise – choose a neutral colour scheme
If you don’t want to know whether your baby’s going to be a boy or a girl, then it may discount the traditional blue or pink options. But there’s a range of neutral shades such as magnolia, latte, mocha and other pale brown hues that will be ideal whatever the gender of your child. They are also suitable colours for toddlers and older children so will last a long time if needed. But if you want something that’s aimed more at early years then take a look at nursery wallpaper. Typical designs include furry animals – rabbits, bears, mice and dogs.
It’s a surprise! (colourful colour scheme)
If neutral shades don’t excite you, then there are some great colours at the brighter end of the scale. Bright yellow, orange and lime green are suitable for both boys and girls, will look great in nurseries, but they are also in trend colours for this season. Again, to create a style that’s more specific to a young child’s nursery, combine these colours with zoo themed nursery wallpaper.
It’s a girl!
Pink has long been the colour associated with little girl’s nurseries. But there’s a range within this – from the simple, more traditional pale pinks to shades like fuchsia are more intense and modern in style. You can add detail to the look by using girls nursery wallpaper like princesses, fairies and butterflies. There are also wall murals. A brand like Walltastic offer murals of many popular children’s toys including Barbie and My Little Pony.
It’s a boy!
If you know you’re having a boy, then blue will be the obvious place to start. There are a big range of shades to consider. Baby blue and other pale shades will create a calm, relaxed nursery, but they can also make the room feel a little cold. A solution to this is to use a shade of pale blue that has been warmed up with a touch of grey, or use some boys nursery wallpaper to add some different colours to the walls.
Whether your baby is a boy or a girl, and whether you want to opt for traditional colour schemes or something a bit different, there are colours and wall effects available.
