Interior design is just like clothing when it comes to new styles. They change every season. While no one wants the cost and hassle of redecorating every season, it can be good to keep abreast of current styles for the next time you want to make a change. This is a rundown of the three central trends for contemporary wallpaper design in Autumn/Winter 2013.
Floral Wallpaper
Our first A/W 13 trend is a development of the Floral Wallpaper trend that was popular earlier in the year. For A/W the prints are getting bigger giving the heavily patterned designs a bolder feel. Rich, intense colours are in vogue. Deep purples like aubergine and dark fuchsia, petrol blue and mustard yellow are in for the softer teals and oranges of the previous season. When it comes to greens lime has been replaced by emerald and moss. The effect is a more natural foliage look. Branch and naked tree designs are also popular reflecting the changing seasons.
Photographic Wallpaper
The second trend that’s been very popular this season is wallpaper that uses photography and real life images in its design. Some smaller trends within this area include celebrity prints – ‘Classic’ stars like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis are popular, as well as contemporary celebs like One Direction – and iconic landscapes like New York and London. These designs are typically quite ‘in your face’ so often best used in larger rooms or just on feature walls.
Themed Wallpaper
The third trend in modern wallpaper this season is themed wallpaper. This can be anything from graffiti to retro designs. These prints have to be used carefully, otherwise they can look outdated as opposed to retro.
Whilst being wildly different in design, these three contemporary wallpaper trends will bring drama and colour to any room in your house.
